Aruba Aloe Balm NV Produces the First Cosmetic Products Based On The Healing Powers of Aloe Vera Gel By Jani Eman
1968
As the demand for aloin dried up, Jani Eman (another son of Cornelis and brother of Keesi) took over the Aloe business in 1966. He discovered the beneficial properties of the Aloe vera gel and started the development of cosmetic products based on it. He was very much ahead of his time because the tremendous worldwide popularity of Aloe vera gel as an ingredient for cosmetic products was still years away.
Jani spent many years researching the gel. Together with a scientist from Miami, Alexander Farkas, and a friend from Aruba, Yan Tai Wong, Jani developed the process to produce the company’s first cosmetic products with a concentrate of Aloe gel. Farkas had developed a way to extract a concentrate from the gel through alcohol extraction and vacuum drying. The resulting product, a gray-white powder called Alomucin, was used as an ingredient for Aruba Aloe Balm's first creams and lotions.
